About WESSA SustainEd:
WESSA SustainEd was formed in 2005 as a unit within WESSA to coordinate the accreditation of WESSA as a training provider and to drive the human capital development, delivery of accredited education and training in the organization.
In 2006, WESSA SustainEd was accredited through the ETDP SETA and obtained programme approval to offer the National Certificate: Environmental Education, Training and Development Practice level 5 (EETDP) on the SA National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
This qualification has since become a flagship programme offered by WESSA and is used for developing capacity of educators and trainers in the field of environmental course delivery. WESSA also offers various short course versions of the EETDP, based on unit standards from the qualification.
The development of the EETDP was a key component of WESSA SustainEd's focus in supporting all accredited course development and implementation by other WESSA departments and regions. Part of SustainEd's vision is to also support the capacity development of other training providers and WESSA associates to develop and offer accredited courses in the conservation and environmental fields.
In essence, the EETDP is an environmentally contextualized train the trainer course. The EETDP and its related short courses play a key role in enabling these partners (other WESSA projects, regions and external providers) to enhance their capacity for the development and delivery of environmental courses in SA. WESSA is also accredited to offer the assessor unit standard (Conduct Outcomes Based Assessment), another pre-requisite for accredited providers. WESSA’s assessor training is also environmentally contextualized.
